USA travel in January

Hi my fully vaccinated 21yo son is intent on flying to the USA to meet his girlfriend in New Jersey & hoping to visit New York. He’s yet to book or arrange his travel insurance. My question is what chance does he have to get covid cancellation cover should he test +ve before he leaves the U.K.? Asking if anyone has recently travelled to this part of the US is probably pointless given the situation is rapidly changing. Thanks in advance.

Which? recommend Churchill and Direct Line as having the best COVID cover but read the policy on receipt and check what is covered, you can cancel and get a refund within 14 days of purchase. New York seems to be having a surge of the virus at the moment so absolutely no guarantee that the rules won't change in the near future1

Have a look at Staysure but make sure the policy covers everything he needs covered.1

We booked through BA, if anyone tests positive they'll refund (but this may only be for packages, so check first)0
