It depends on how long you have been employed. In the first two years, you can be sacked for most reasons, except discrimination in respect of a protected characteristic.
  • Been 5 years now. Just wasnt sure if they could sack someone for catching a virus accidentally.

As opposed to catching  a virus on purpose?

This comes under your organisation’s sickness policy.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If you've been employed (not on some second hand contract via an agency) then they can't fire you for being sick or having to isolate.  They should have something in their HR policy about sick pay and they may try to say you need to take time off as either holiday or unpaid - but that will depend on what's actually in your contract or employment policies.  They may of course use it as a reason to put you on some sort of "attendance plan" but that's something that would need to be discussed with you and is only normally done if you have a record of sickness/non attendance.

If time was important you would be better off going to a testing centre, either one of the walk in or drive through ones, you generally get the results back the next morning.

Is this a hypothetical question or is it  happening?
  • @sheramber It's hypothetical. And @MattMattMattUK what If you tried to book a walk in test on the website but there were no walk in sites available and you don't drive so you can't go to a drive through.

You just keep trying on the site. Slots are refreshed every two hours during the day, just because they are all gone at one point in the day it doesn't mean there won't be any.

Ride a bike or a horse? Make brum brum noises as you walk down the drive through?
