Put a floor over stone chippings

My Dad has just bought a temporary garage to use as a garden workshop. Where he wants to put it is covered in stone chippings. Is there something he could put over the stones to make a more stable surface for his larger tools. He doesn’t want to take the stones up and put slabs down. Thanks.

What sort of "larger tools" ?If we are talking about band saws, lathes, pillar drills, etc, then you must have a solid floor to stand them on - And even slabs would be unsuitable. It would need to be a properly laid concrete base over a good layer of hardcore. If, on the other hand, it is just light hand tools and a bench, build a platform out of 3x2 timber with a couple of sheets of OSB on top. But any time he drops something, it will probably bounce & disappear into the gravel. The stones will also collect debris & waste materials unless the temporary floor goes right up to the walls of the garage/workshop.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
