Bank or other credit card provider?

Afternoon all. I am helping my partner apply for their first credit card with the sole purpose of building up their credit history. Are the credit cards provided by banks just as good as the other suppliers (Amex etc) for this purpose? I know they can provide better rewards etc, but if it's just for building up a credit history does it matter? Thanks in advance

  • All serve the same purpose of building history.

But providers like Amex shouldn't be the first port of call. Her own bank or a sub prime provider is a better bet.
