Nissan Warranty Renewal – is it worth it?

Hi –

I bought my first car 2 years ago from a Nissan Dealer, a used 2017 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 Dig–T Tekna with 10,000 on the clock.

The warranty it came with expires next week and Nissan are offering a 12 month renewal at £42 a month or £420 as a one-off-payment.

Is the 12 month warranty worth it and should i renew?

Thanks.

    You need to consider

    1) What the warranty actually covers.
    2) Whether it is likely that any of those things are likely to fail on a 4 year old car (especially if it has been running well), and if so how much they would cost to fix.

In my view extended warranties are never worth the money - they exist to make the company some extra profit. Things that actually go wrong are rarely covered. You are better off saving the £420 and using it to pay for repairs if they are needed.

It's entirely up to you and your attitude to risk. It doesn't take much of a problem for the bill to reach above £420 nowadays, so if something that is covered goes wrong it would be worth having.

Is something likely to go wrong? Who knows. If it did, could you afford to fix it without the warranty?
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Does your 1.2 Qashqai use any oil? It may be worth extending the warranty as these engines are known for using oil.

Without knowing what all the mysterious unspecified exclusions are, it's impossible to tell if the warranty is valuable or not worth the paper it's printed on.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Ouch that’s a lot of money, my Peugeot extended warranty is £289 a year.
3 days before my car was three the front parking sensor went wrong.
3 hours labour and reprogramming plus the Sanand spraying it. £600 cost.
They fixed it, but made me think.
So I took out a warranty.
    Warranty good dealer scum bags.
Washers stopped and just dribbling, Went in for mot and service so told them it’s under warranty and gave go ahead to find and fix.
They gave the car a dodgy mot as jets were not fixed, and said blocked jets not covered by warranty.
Took to my mechanic and he found the problem in 2 minutes, the washer pipe had split.
Went back and force the dealer to do the repair. £210 for pipe and fitting.
It felt to me like the dealer did not want the work or care about the customer.
