Hi,

Looking for a bit of advice. I have just moved into a new home and used to pay £83 per month in my old home (same size etc), but have just received a quote of £227 per month!! Is this normal? Is there anything else I can do or am I doing the right thing?

Thank you!

Don't compare your new home with your old one - they will be different in their build standards, insulation etc.

The advice on these forums is not to go for a fix,
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Ok, só do I just go with what the previous provider have put me on? I believe this is more than £227 with EDF Energy as they have put me on their deemed contract at the moment.

Yes their deemed contract is the one to choose, at least for now.
They may offer you other fixed-rate contracts; you can consider these but they're likely to be more expensive than the deemed contract.
Hopefully in the spring there will be a bit of a drop in energy prices and fixed contracts will begin to look attractive again.

Ok, that is great. I will stick with what they offer me for now then. Is the main thing not moving into a fixed contract?

Right at the moment the deemed tariff is around 21p/kWh for electricity, 4p/kWh for gas and 25p/day standing charge for each. This won't change until April (when it's expected to rise significantly).
The "Fix Long-Term" is probably more like 40p/kWh for electricity and 10p/kWh for gas. The standing charge might be similar to the deemed tariff, or even slightly less, but that's quite a small part of the whole bill.

Bear in mind that the"quote" is based on what the supplier thinks you are going to use. It's not your actual energy bill.

If the previous occupant left the heating on tropical all year round, what you actually use could be less.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

They will be trying to get you on a fixed deal, possibly with a get out penalty for leaving early. Just tell the energy company you want their SVR tariff that's the lowest anyone is going to get.
Someone please tell me what money is
  • Hi,
if you were on fixed tariff with old supplier then with price hike, be at least 50% more.
