The silver Sony batteries sold at Poundland "used" to be very very good but suddenly they had smaller pack sizes
and the batteries were a LOT lighter.

The large packs of Kodaks etc. are cheap for a reason, they weigh very little and do not last long.

Ikea ones do seem to get decent reviews, not the best but good for the money.

Bang for buck is my measure of "best"
    How do rechargeable batteries compare?

Extremely well, with typically 500-1000 recharges before they reach say 80% of initial capacity and many more after that. If buying batteries is becoming a significant cost that's a sign that switching to rechargeables is likely to be a good move.

Rechargeables aren't perfect, though. Their lower nominal 1.2 volts compared to 1.5 for lithium means that LEDs might not shine as brightly, depending on how good their controller is, or that a motor might run slower. They also can have lower total capacity than the same amount of space allocated to non-rechargeables.

Bought 12 AA batteries and the make is Energiser, long lasting type. I think they are about 8 pounds but bought them for 5 pounds from my local supermarket.

Caterpillar Inc. is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives.

And very good they are but if you buy a battery with their name on it is no guarantee it is of the same quality as their earth moving equipment.

The problem is that there are few actual manufacturers but lots of brands. The shelf life of these things is years so even brand loyalty means little - the pack you buy might be a few weeks or a few years old so it is the luck of the draw.

I suspect that my subscription prevents me sharing the information - probably due to copywright?
