Looking for cheap 8" tablet for Dji Mavic Mini

Hi all, looking for a cheap 8" tablet that is 64 bit does anyone have any recommendations? 2nd or 3rd hand would be fine just need it to fly my Mavic Mini drone as the DJI Fly app does not support 32 bit devices, have looked on ebay, Facebook Marketplace etc. but do not have a clue which ones are 64 bit. Thanks.

  • Nearly all tablets from the last 5 years will be 64 bit.

You can find out for sure by looking at the technical specifications for the tablet, if it doesn’t explicitly say 64 bit then check which CPU it uses and Google that CPU model to find out whether it is 32/64 bit.
  • Thanks for reply, I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019) that does not support 64 bit so that is why I am unsure which tablets are 64 bit.

Tab A is 64 bit.   Well it was in 2016 so assume its still 64 bit.. Unlikely to go backwards.

    Samsum Launcher 32bit though?

  • Have tried to install DJI Fly app onto my Tab A but even though if downloads onto tablet it will not install. Have been told in the Mavic Mini forums the app needs 64 bit OS and even though the Tab A has a 64 bit processor it only has a 32 bit OS.

does this help How to check if an Android device is 64-bit or 32-bit (addictivetips.com) or you could download this and find out a lot more more AIDA64 – Apps on Google Play

Have tried to install DJI Fly app onto my Tab A but even though if downloads onto tablet it will not install. Have been told in the Mavic Mini forums the app needs 64 bit OS and even though the Tab A has a 64 bit processor it only has a 32 bit OS.

So the bit in bold is the bit I wasn't aware of until now, that many recent Android tablets with 64-bit hardware still have the 32 bit Android OS installed and it doesn't seem to be apparent on the specifications either.

The only advice I can give is narrow down your search for Tablets with 4GB of RAM or more and they will be 64 bit OS. Those with less than 4GB could be either 32 or 64 bit.***

Note this is RAM and not storage capacity - so for example the base Galaxy Tab A 32GB has 2GB of RAM - you need to dig into the specs to find that - the 32GB number is not the one your a looking for.

I know that isn't really all that helpful but seems the manufacturers are not particularly transparent about whether 32 or 64 bit Android is installed and your best bet is some in depth Googling once you find a model to see who else has checked this out.

Also seems that a lot of people have been caught out by this and in particular apps like DJI fly, but I did stumble across a forum with some people suggesting an app called Litchi might be a good alternative as it runs on 32 bit, but check it supports your model of drone.

*** 32 bit OS supports a max of 4GB of address space, some of that is required for addressing hardware other than RAM and therefore having 4GB or more of RAM with a 32 bit OS is pointless because the system can't use all of it. This is just a rule of thumb though so do check but I'd say most, if not all tablets with 4GB of RAM will be running 64 bit Android.
  • Thanks tallmansix, yes there were a lot of people buying the Mavic Mini 1 and Mini 2 that didn't realise that the app to fly them needed a 64 bit operating system, me being one  :D It does work on my iphone but I was looking for a something with a bigger screen.

Have had a look on some of the Mavic Mini Forums and they do seem to have a list of compatible tablets so will work through them and see what I can get. Cheers.

There is a 64 bit checker app in the play store
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danielpolish.a64bitchecker&hl=en&gl=US

I have a Lenovo 8" M8 tablet  (TB-X605F)  a year old at least  it is 64 bit - OS  and hardware - I bought it on price at the time before I had the Mini 2
Turns out it is fully 64 bit
It runs the DJ FLY app ok - too ( although not actually flown with it  - no tablet holder )

I use a Oppo A72 phone to fly it - thats not on DJI list either but works fine

Litchi is not ready for Mini 2 yet - need DJI to release the SDK for it 1st

A bit of shameless self promotion - DJI Mini 2 stuff
