Have I lost 9 years no claims?

I am just about to buy a car having not had one since 2015. I sold my previous car as I was living in London and found that I just wasn't using it. I have now moved out of London and once again need a car. When I had my previous car, I had accumulated 9 years of no claims with my insurance. Am I correct to assume that I cannot carry this over to a new policy and therefore have to start again from scratch i.e. 0 years of no claims?

Yes, you've lost it.
But ... I'd phone your previous insurer or a broker and see what they can do.
Aviva gave me the equivalent of maximum no claims discount on a new policy when I bought a second car.1 -
