Pyracantha hedging costs?
Having decided to go ahead with another Pyracantha Firethorn border for security i'm looking around to get the best deal!
I have found these deals at local garden centres:-
Pyracantha Red/Yellow £12.50 each (3-4 foot Height)
Pyracantha All Varieties £9.95 each (3-4 foot Height)
Pyracantha small Red Column/Orange Glow 3 for £10 (0.3 foot Height)
I already have a pyracantha hedge on one side of the garden but I'm eager to get one on the other side and don't really want to spend time doing cuttings although if i am prepared to wait it seems like i could save quite a bit of cash.
Having looked online i'm not seeing any better deals than above when you factor in the shipping and vat charges/
Any advice or tips welcome!

I would go for a mixture for different colour berries however, 30-50 cm a year is the growth rate so the more expensive 3 footers might be about 3 years old.
If you are eager for it to grow you might have to cough up the cash but i would wait until the spring for better deals, i got one from wilko last year for £2.95.Enjoy everyday like it's your last!0 -
Have you thought of bare root plants. They would far cheaper than pot bought (about £1 - £2 each) plus once planted and lightly pruned in spring they grow away happily. Did a mixed hedge 2 years ago with 30 or so plants for less than £50.

Yup. Bare root plants won't look as good on the planting day but they will do the job for a fraction of the price if you can get them. With a little forward planning, you can make the hedge without spending anything. I agree that they are good for security. I am in the process of removing a large pyracantha and it's a horrible job. The wood is too spiky to even make good fire wood.0
