Back to the OP - yes you can save "money" (but it may be points or vouchers) using a card to purchase things.  If you have a zero % purchase offer great and then you can pay it off in a few months - assuming you will be able to do that in the normal course of events.

The only way I have got any decent amounts on purchasing to get ££ is by using my M&S card which accrues points that are eventually changed into vouchers I can then spend at M&S.  Which is fine as there are some things we normally buy there in any case.  But the only way to get a good chunk for this is to put alllll of our spending on it (which we pay off monthly) and when we have the chance also use it for some humongous purchase like a car.  Currently have about £100 in vouchers waiting for the sales but frankly I think I'd prefer to have £100 in the bank instead.

  • Thanks for all reply’s. Am still debating about taking this route

I kinda lately been spending bit more than usual and probably might do for bit longer around 4 months

I hoping to balance this out abit. Hence I could only think of a 0% card way

i know Barclays does a cash back card but not sure if it actually that good or if can match top Cashback

Here run down how am thinking it work if I take 0% route .

So any big spending I do I use the credit card on topcashback  so if e.g I spend £80 and get £5 back i can out that £5 in to my savings etc

Same if am shopping around the in store points I earn I could use here there to lower cost and the x I save I put away

My plan is to save up for the period of the %0 and when I do come to clearing the balance. I should technically break even or something?

Then again my thinking might be totally off.

you also can't any longer deposit money from credit cards into savings accounts
What's changed from past practice for money transfers?
The last remaining loopholes, working until a couple of months ago, have finally been closed now
Er, transfer to bank acc, transfer to savings. CC does not ask where the money is going or what it is being used for. Just done one this week.

But it's a case of finding a savings account that will pay enough to cover any fee's & still make something that borders on making it worthwhile.

It obviously makes no sense to pay for transfers but free transfers are a thing of the past. And providers do check. E.g. Barclaycard won't let you make deposits to NS&I or Skipton, and the Curve loophole has now been well and truly closed.
I have several existing cards with 0% money transfer fee all from various brands of the Lloyds group. It is possible to stooze using a combination of those and a new 0% no fee balance transfer card from another provider which is a method I have used in the past. Not worth doing now because of low interest rates on savings.

It isn't mutually exclusive,  you can use both, and stack the rewards.

I have a Barclaycard cashback card which gives me 0.5% cashback on everything I spend. I usually get about £50 on it a year for a £10k spend.

I don't use topcashback, but do use Quidco. If I log into Quidco, go to the retailer site from there I get the cashback from Quidco, 5% or whatever it is. I then pay on the retailer site with my Barclaycard and get the 0.5% on the total cost in addition to the 5% from quidco.
