Boiler repair - Ideal combi won't always ignite

Options
I have an Ideal combi boiler, which doesn't always ignite. The timers don't work either so when you set the boiler to come on, nothing happens.

If we switch on the boiler, sometimes the flame goes out, but you can still here the boiler 'working'.

I live in the Croydon area and was wondering if anyone could recommend a boiler repair person...? I was thinking about calling British Gas, until I read some of the posts on this forum!

Many thanks

Have you checked the pressure in the system?

If it is too low the boiler will not ignite

I do not have an Ideal but AFAIK most have a visible gauge to check pressure, maybe marked with a Green zone for OK?

Look in the instruction book if you have one, or try Googling for it

  • I live in Croydon and found that Corgimen are a very fickle bunch, say they'll come out but don't so I was glad to get hold of a Corgiman who did what he said he'd do. If you email me I'll give you his number.

  • Many thanks for the help posted. I now have a contact - yay!
  • Farway thanks for your message - the pressure has been checked and is ok.

caveat_emptor, many thanks for your recommendation. The guy you suggested was EXCELLENT. I called the phone no. and his very helpful wife booked an appointment in today (how quick is that?). He came over exactly on time and was very helpful in explaining what he thought the problem was. He certainly didn't pressure me into making a decision and his call out was FREE.

It may be that the air pressure switch needs changing, but if we decide to go ahead, we will certainly be going with him.

    Such an honest man.

Are we allowed to mention his name on here?
