Moss removal + tile cleaning + gutterins + windows (inside/outside)

Options
Hi all,

i’m looking to get some work done, managed to find a company with really good reviews, but the quote seems excessive.

3 bed terraced house, I would like my roof cleaned (moss removal + tiles cleaned + treatment), gutterings cleaned, windows cleaned (inside + outside).

The quote is £880. Is this usual? Surrey area

  • It depends on how they clean the roof tiles the prices vary from £10 to £20 per sq/mtr in the midlands & Gutter cleaning old fashioned way up a ladder is about £100 or £50 if they use a vac system (again midlands) As for treatment I have no idea. But Surrey area is a lot more expensive than here.

They forgot they sent me a quote and I got a new one. Went up £500 within days, so now they want nearly £1400 to clean a fairly small roof.

    DIY it is…

I'm in West Sussex and just had 3 quotes for Moss removal, gutter clearance, windows cleaned (outside only but includes a Conservatory including roof / frames etc), and all fascias and soffits cleaned.

One was £620, One was £800, and another just for the roof moss and guttering only was £850. So quite a big difference.

The guy who i've instructed to do it (at £620) said half of the cost is in the moss removal alone. I guess it depends what condition the roof is in. Ours isn't great but by no means the worst in our street when it comes to moss.

If they're really asking for £1400 i'd shop around and get another couple of quotes.

Update is that I won’t do it for this price. I can easily wash the windows and clean the gutters myself, I won’t pay £1000+ to have a bit of moss scraped off.
  • I hope people are aware that most of the roof moss cleaning and treatment do more harm than good?

I'm not sure that's the case. if done properly, without damaging the tiles, it prolongs the life of the roof. moss can absorb water and if it freezes, it has the power to dislocate tiles. the myth that moss is somehow harmless has been long debunked.

I would always go for a clean roof, but the prices quoted are just mad at the moment...
