Not That Techie - DVD Player requirement

Hi
I am finding it really difficult to locate a DVD player that accepts discs in the same mannet as the Nintendo Wii (a slot that eats the disc rather than a tray).
I want to be able to mount the player on it's side inside an enclosure and I can't quite believe that a DVD player is not available for me to buy.
I understand all the issues regarding this kind of DVD loading (more prone to scratch discs), but It's really what I want.
Any ideas?

Philips used to do one (the 5100/05 I think) but is since discontinued. This type of loading mechanism is known as 'slot loaders' and there are plenty of the DVD drives to go into a PC unit, but not stand alone.
I'm not aware of any current DVD player that uses a slot mechanism with the exception of the Sony PS3 - but they're expensive to say the least.
You may want to look at a portable DVD player (the ones with a built in 7" screen). I say this as most of these are slot loaders, they are very slim (obviously) and although they have built in screens, the better quality ones from Toshiba, Samsung and Philips allow you to output the image to a TV via component/VGA as well as optical out for audio into an amp or stero audio.
Shame the Wii doesn't play DVD's.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
The Phillips model is: DVP5100/05 at http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00096J3HG
but as Jason said above, isn't available, you might be able to find it on eBay.
You could buy/build a media PC with a slot loading drive but it'll be a lot more than a basic DVD player.
Panasonic make a bare bones notebook sized slot loading DVD-RW drive, model UJ-815-B, info at: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Panasonic_Slot_Loading_DVD_Multi_Drive_UJ_815_B__5400833
Probably not much use though!
