Remaining with cheaper Octopus tariff previous tenants were on after move-in
Hi all, I've recently moved into a new property that Octopus supplied gas and electricity to with the previous tenants. My intention was to switch both over to another supplier but, due to a reason on Octopus end, my gas did not switch; all the while I've of course been been billed by them. I've realised though that the bill tariff from Octopus is lower than what I intended switch to and so I'd like to leave it as is but when I go to sign up with Octopus I'm only offered 2 tariffs that are both more expensive.
My question is what's the best thing to do here? I'd like to phone up and attempt to negotiate staying on that tariff however my fear is once they have all my details I'll be placed onto a more expensive one. Is it better to leave as is and just pay monthly payments via 'octopus.energy/pay/' when I receive a bill? Any help appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to the forum.Just give them your name, address, date of taking possession, opening meter readings and bank DD info (by snail mail if necessary). That's it.You'll be on the deemed capped SVT. Don't agree to anything else.0

In regards to registering upon move-in: I initially signed up to a different supplier before moving and to my knowledge the process was completed (was informed gas was live with new supplier). However kept receiving gas bills from Octopus and none from new supplier so phoned up to investigate and turns out Octopus rejected the gas switch but no one had informed me (not great signs from new supplier). They also asked if it was a prepaid meter but I'm almost certain it's not as I haven't had to top-up at all and only noting monthly readings. Not sure if this is also something worth investigating?

SGC96 said:Thank you! I assume then what I'm being billed is deemed cap SVT. When I sign up online it doesn't give me the option to remain on it only 'fixed' tariffs (but with early exit allowed). Should I register by either mail or phone then to stay with what I'm being charged?

Talk to them on twitter if you do social media, they're really responsive to messages.
