Import Tax - refundable on goods returned to country of origin?

I recently bought an item costing 200 Euros, from France, and paid £34 for the package to be released through UK Customs by the delivery company.

I now need to return the item to France (and buy it again in a different size); is there some way to claim the import duty back..?

Thanks in advance.

You would need to contact HMRC about the possibility of recovering the import duty.  Do bear in mind that duty will probably only be a small part of the £34 as the delivery company will charge for administering the collection.
