16/17 year old driving licence help!

Hi
we are just applying for a driving licence for my 16y daughter. It comes up saying 'as your 16 we will only issue a provisional moped licence'

When she is 17 in 3 months, will it automatically become a car provisional or will we have to get it exchanged first?

Thanks

  • Excellent! thanks.. !
  • Did the same for my daughter last year.  On her birthday apply for her theory test (be prepared to travel).  You can not apply for the practical until you have passed the theory.  Get your instructor lined up.
  • My other point would be book her practical test as soon as possible (assuming you are happy that she will get to the required standard fairly quickly).  I was  lucky my daughter had been driving on our ground since she was 11-12 so knew the tricky bits of learning to drive.

My son learned and passed his test just over a year and a bit ago. The wait for a test was very long, especially as it took him a couple of goes!
But we had a lot of luck with an app that checks the booking site every minute for cancellations or new appointments being added and grabs them for you moving your existing booking automatically according to the rules you set. It keeps doing it until its as near as you want.
Both times it turned very many months wait into 2-3 weeks!   There are free programs that do this but the paid one works really well as it has more server resources behind it, think it was about £14 for as many uses as needed until you pass your test.
Other people we know used it with great success too.

the “tricky bits” are probably about 10% of what you need to pass a test and drive safely. Learning on private roads (which I also did 100 years ago) doesn’t equip you to deal with other road users, half of whom are idiots.

I didn't say it was, but good clutch control, hill starts and an expertise in harrowing (driving straight) certainly means you get off to a flying start, whilst total newbies have a steep learning curve especially on busy roads.
