Tesco Car Insurance PNCD mid term price hike

Options
So 7 months into my car insurance with Tesco they have determined that I was misquoted for the PNCD (Protected No Claims Discount) portion of the renewal. I have been offer to do either:

* pay another £27 to maintain the PNCD
* get a refund for the originally quoted PNCD and have it removed from my policy

Surely this cannot be legal? Sales of goods and services don't permit this type of late change surely? I always understood that unless the amount was clearly wrong that the benefit of any such error favoured the purchaser. Are Tesco just trying it on?

    Seems pretty poor!
I suspect it's not legal but don'tknow for sure. I'd certainly challange it. Reply stating that
    * you wanted, and still want, PNCD.
    * you received a quote on that basis - Tesco made a contractual offer.
    * you chose to take out the policy on that basis - you accepted Tesco's offer
    * a contract was formed: offer and acceptance
    * you expect Tesco to abide by that contract and maintain your PNCD at the orginal price.
    Best of luck!

I assume you hadn't misled them in some way, and the reason they're requoting is because they've since received conflicting information from your previous insurers? But if not then no, I can't see they have any right to amend their quotation.
  • UPDATE - I actually started a complaint regarding this and initially it looked like a scam as there was no record on my account of a letter being sent out. During my complaint I made it clear I was removing the continuous authority to my payment method meaning Tesco can't just take further money. Turns out Tesco did send the letter but are now failing to follow up. Given there was no undisclosed information by myself and they were my previous insurer I can only conclude they miscalculated the PNCD portion of my quote and then tried it correct it at my expense. Clearly not legal or they would still be on my case.
