Unpaid overdraft (Please help).

Options
Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of help. I'm currently on a journey to becoming debt free at last. A few years ago I got caught up in a cycle of payday loans and I'm now starting to pay back my creditors and debt collectors etc.

There's one I'm confused about though. When I was a student (around 4-5 years ago) I had a Santander student overdraft (0%) which then turned into a current account (unarranged overdraft). I was £2000 overdrawn and I have never paid it back, essentially I buried my head in the sand, ignored it and opened a new account with another bank. So, it took years for anything to happen, until eventually I started getting letters from a debt collection company saying Santander had recruited them to recover £2000, I got letter after letter but ignored them (stupidly I know I know). Today, I phoned the debt collection company with a view to arranging a repayment plan, I was told they were no longer dealing with my account and that it had been sent back to Santander - 5 months ago. In that 5 months I've had nothing from Santander or any other debt collection agency. I tried to log into my Santander online banking today to be told I don't have any Santander products, so they must have suspended/deleted my account.

I'm just wondering, should I contact Santander? Would they be agreeable to a payment plan? What will they do if I just leave it? Would they just write it off without telling me?

I'm not trying to avoid my debts, I'm just a bit puzzled with this specific one.

Are you 100% sure that Santander don't have  a CCJ against you already?
  • I don't think so. I've had a CCJ before and been through the process (claim letter, CCJ judgement letter etc), but I don't' seem to have received anything to that effect from Santander.

What do your CRA accounts say?
    ClearScore, Credit Karma & Experian?
  • What do your CRA accounts say?
    ClearScore, Credit Karma & Experian?

The three main CRA's (Credit Reference Agencies) are Equifax, Trans Union and Experian.

"ClearScore" and "Credit Karma" are not CRA's and it's always best to get a free statutory report direct to access all the data.
