Final year student, private halls of residence and council tax bill

My son is in his final year of his degree and the course finishes in May next year. He lives in private student halls in a self contained room, that has an en-suite and small kitchenette area (fridge, oven microwave). The contract for his accommodation finishes either late August or early September. When he finishes his course next year will he become liable for council tax at his accommodation address if he remains there and if so how does that work? Last year when he was a 2nd year student, he shared a house with a 3rd year student, when her course finished, the council tax bill got sent to both of them though asking on here, I was told that the bill minus 25% was the graduating student's bill alone as she shared with other students and she paid it up until she moved out. That was for a small terraced house though, how is the bill divided up with DS and any other graduating student if the premises they live in is a purpose built private halls?

I’m not even sure if halls have a council tax liability. Can you check online?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
