Adblue shortage

Shortage in Australia is spreading here.  Went to usual supplier (Toolstation), out of stock, cannot order.  None at Screwfix, Aldi or Tesco. As modern diesels will not start without it might be time to stock up

Anyone know if this is just affecting retail sales, or if this is next looming logistics crisis??

It's going to be a Great Disaster!

Seriously, adblue is urea, which apparently isn't made from wee, which we have plenty of, but ammonia made from natural gas, which is a) very expensive now and b) in short supply (again- more so when we go to war with Russia over Ukraine)

Best stock up while you can.

Naturally, this is going to push up the prices of everything....

    What constitutes a "modern" diesel?

We never had to put it in our 2010 turbo diesels.

Is it really new ones affected?

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Yup. Later models need it to run. My 2009 vw doesn't but the 2017 Land Rover does.

Is it alignment with the "Euro" classifications, if so which?

Who says this? There's plenty of Adblue around my area, saw load of the stuff outside my local petrol station today.

The "shortage" you're reporting is particular to Australia because they import 80% of their Urea from China and China are withholding output for a few months whereas we have different sources in Europe. The only supply issue we may face is due to the cost of natural gas.
