Hi

I'm on sick leave with a life threatening condition that the uk does not treat. The only people who do surgery are in Spain or America. It will cost about 40k.

I bought first house 2020, and got it paid from 160k down to 120k. All my money has now been spent on medical scans. Husband is uncaring and won't help me get surgery, so probably need to get divorced and him buy me out of home since he doesn't give a ....

But I need the money ASAP. I'm on sick leave, not yet fired. Could I get a loan from somewhere instead of waiting for fundraising which could take too long?

Thanks in advance x

Sounds like a dreadful situation to be in.

The only way I think you could get a loan I think would be to remortgage which presumably would require husband's consent if he is on the mortgage now.   And you would have to be, ummm, discrete about what you tell them...that you want to renovate or something.  I can't imagine if you were truthful and said you needed it for medical treatment that anyone would lend you a penny.

Its impossible to comment one way or the other on the limited information provided, however, if you have a house, then a secured loan is always a possibility, whether sufficient equity is available or not is of course another matter, as is the affordability criteria, then comes the problem of repaying it, but I guess that`s a topic for another discussion.

Hi yep I would have to be discreet. Think is without husband on board I can't put loan against house.

So is there no one who would lend the money? I could use money from house sake to pay it back :(

I'm in a truly sh.. situation. My finances and life was amazing til now. Now I wish I was dead when I fell instead of getting a rare injury that nhs won't treat. So scaews

Do you mind sharing exactly what it is that happened and what treatment you need?

I think crowd funding is the only way for you.  Have you approached the hospitals in Spain to see if they would have payment plans?  Would your employer have any insurances to help long term sick employees?  Is the refusal to fund your treatment uk wide or if you moved to scotland or wales would it be funded?

Problem is, no one is going to lend 50K unsecured, securing it against a house would be the only way.

No one will treat in uk. It is cranio cervical instability. The longer it goes on the more likely to have permanent neuro damage. My husband won't  open his eyes to it. Talking to an expert Spanish neurosurgeon next week, one or the only ones who can operate on it in the world. My husband happy to leave me to rot and every second is torture. Everyone else has to fundraise too. Was just hoping somehow I could get a loan.

One other option to consider is that you get a personal loan for £25K and someone else, such as your parents, gets a personal loan for a similar amount. Might your parents be prepared to mortgage their house?

The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

The OP is in an awful position and I wish them well.

With regard to the loan, there has been mention of needing some form of security (with which I'd concur) but the OP will also need to demonstrate affordability / capacity to repay.

Crowdfunding may be an option to pursue instead, or in addition to, loans.

I wish the OP all the best in finding a resolution.

Do you hold any credit cards?

If you are an established customer with a good track record they are often willing to increase your credit limit if you say you want to redecorate, do a loft conversion, or whatever. Three or four cards might well give you what is needed.

Has a doctor in the UK told you that you need this treatment? Sadly, there are many unscrupulous doctors around the world who get rich quickly from people in your situation.
