I must share this - my OH has his 80th birthday soon. He received a letter from the Pensions Service this morning to inform him that his pension will be increased by an age addition of 25p a week! Now, a decision to be made, what to spend it on?!!20

Frozen uncooked biscuit mix works well. I freeze it in the shape of a log so it slices easily when i come to use it.

With regard to the top rump beef I asked your expert opinion on..... It was delicious 😋 I sniff tested when defrosted and it smelled ok, cooked as per instructions and it was melt in the mouth. So glad I didn’t throw away. There was enough for 2 meals and 3 lunches. 👏🏻Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.14

A gent I used to deliver post to (and who I see walking around on my new delivery route) was telling me he'd had this increase earlier in the year. He them informed he still hasn't decided what luxury to use it for, and is saving it up until he decides(He actually said the latter with a cheeky grin, so I suspect it's just disappeared to pay bills the same as the rest of it!).
I hadn't realised he was anywhere near that age

A 25p raise is an insult in this day and age. It nust cost more to process the change than the first years increase. Having said that I hope you dont lie awake worrying about your new found wealth.

Hi all
I am sooo cold. This has to be my thyroid, I am currently under the heated blanket and cannot move. I put the electric heater on at work a bit this morning, but I wasnt the only one feeling cold so I didnt feel too guilty.
Cycled into work and back. Took my lunch and snacks so thats good. Carbonara for tea.
We have got new electric prices from 1st October, it doesnt look too bad, £20 more a month by my calculations before the £400 deduction. Heating oil is going to be expensive though.7 -
a 25p pension increase will purchase about a quarter of a First Class Postage stamp.
I wonder which quarter of the stamp they would like me to cut off and stick on the envelope when I write my "thank you" letter!7 -

And see them issued with an underpayment charge of £1.50 in order to get the letter.......

Just been listening to the Big Green Money show on podcast (Radio Five ) and there was a bit about food waste.
They interviewed a chap about an App called Kitche which seemed really interesting and I've downloaded (its free to use another tick from me) it to my phone.
It's about how in an average household (not mine I hasten to add ) there is around a £720.00 a year food waste ! and how many people could cut back on it ,and a good example was 'buy the food you need' and 'eat the food you buy'.
Deborah Meaden said she has a tin of pears in her cupboards that have moved three times with her and has a BBF date of 2014it reminds us that 'eat by' dates is for stuff that will harm you if eaten, and the BBF date is stock rotation dates its a really interesting podcast and I thought it may help someone on here.
A lot of what was said I thought 'Hmm I've been doing that for years', menu planning etc and freezing stuff . But I think it was quite enlightening as less food waste is not just about eliminating food waste, but the waste of time, energy etc thats gone into producing it already. Give it a try and see what you think .Unless of course you have heard the podcast already ,or even use the App.

I wonder if food waste these days is partly a reflection of the busy life women lead, as well as an increasingly affluent society.
When women were full time housewives they had more time to cook and menu plan, so dealing with food supplies had more concentrated focus. Now people just wander round supermarkets and grab items without necessarily planning exactly how and when they're going to be used. They just want stuff easily to hand in their fridges "just in case" or "we'll get round to eating it eventually if we can be bothered to cook it".
I suspect the cost of living crisis may reduce some of these extravagant ways but old habits do tend to die hard.20
