Relating back to the Haybox method, just found this delightful rehash of a wartime demonstration which may evoke a few memories for older members:

On the topic of water meters, I think it partly depends on how keen a gardener you are, especially if you grow yiur own vegs and have a reasonable size veg plot. If you do there,s always a risk that in dry years like this one you,ll use much more water trying to keep them alive so then having a water meter is then an expensive proposition, We,re not currently on a meter and have four water butts which can empty quite quickly in weather like this although we,re currently still using a hosepipe to water the vegs which are grown at the bottom of the garden. Lugging heavy watering cans that distance when you're elderly simply isn't possible.8

Hello, is it ok if I join? I know I'm so far into the year but hoping to just start ticking of items this year that I can get to decent point to do a whole year, next year. Currently reading back, and so inspired by everyone.16

Everyone is welcome at ANY point of the year. Always nice to hear ideas from new people, as well as continue to share some from us 'oldies'

Well we have both marked up on the freezer list items that have been removed/decluttered from the freezer and consumed. How have I not found this system until 2022? I am so easily pleased about it. Having the visual saves opening the freezer and pondering about what is inside too saving a small electric gain.
Each day I can get away from going to any shop I am making our house keeping money last a little longer. The using up of collected rain water (sorry to those who have not had any for weeks) and using it for flushing in the house makes me smile when used as it has not had to come via our water meter. Marginal gains again for us.
The late batch cooking that happened last week and the left overs that were turned into a sort of curry were actually very tasty. 4 meals already consumed
Need to focus a little and make an appropriate date/time of month to do budget checks to keep us on the straight and narrow, as this is all new we don't want to take our eyes of the ball.
Have a lovely week Peeps

We have had no rain here since early June, my poor veg patch is looking very sorry for itself. But hey ho, there’s always next year and it’s killed a lot of snails and slugs off!7

It's been many years since I've been on here and feel like I've come home. So many of the things I learnt then are woven into our lives today; budgeting, cooking from scratch, shopping lists and debt free but with the way things are going and now in our 9th year of retirement there's a real need to pick up some new tips and ideas. Thank you for having me back.14

Hmmm, just been reading the MSE Newsletter, not looking good for energy prices is it. All predictions and speculation at the moment. I've decided to wait and see what Ofgem announce before going into panic mode.
The hosepipe ban started on Friday here in Hampshire and Isle of Wight. We are used to water shortages, think the last really bad one was 2012, didn't get to a hosepipe ban situation or drought but every year we get a reminder to conserve water. We already have compulsory water meters so it's likely to be a drought order shortly I'll leave it at that, plenty of info online/ national newspapers if you want to read about Southern Water but I'm sure everyone is more concerned about their area.6
