Make it the night before so it’s soaked up the liquid. Doesn’t grow as much 😁
I’ve ordered a Polar gear insulated 500 lunch tub with a handle. Not exactly what I was after but when I looked at it I thought it would be ideal for summer salads too as it’s a decent size to not crush leaves which I hate lol. Also thought it would be handy in a power cut, if I heat up on the camping stove I could store in it for later.Life happens, live it well.6 -
When I have porridge (not often) I use a pasta bowl. I used to use a large cereal bowl, and it always came over the top.
I now have a large microwavable rice cooker that would be plenty big enough, but I think it would be difficult to eat from it (too deep really).

There was a link to mortgage free in 3s blog on here a few days back.
She did a post on instant oats, which I made up and my other half used to take to work.
It was basically a load of oats, baked in the oven, then two thirds were blended and all mixed together with a little salt, sugar and powdered milk. To make up it just needed boiling water.
At least it didnt make a mess of the work microwave 🙂9 -
BelleBaluu said:Just while on the subject of containers, I have started making myself porridge in the mornings, as it's a) filling and b) I can buy a cheap bag of oats for 75p and it does my breakfasts for a few weeks. However, I am struggling to find a bowl or tub big enough to cook it in, I always end up with a "magic porridge pot" situation going on in my microwave - i.e. it just keeps spilling over the top of the bowl. Just invested in a Sistema breakfast pot, but that wasn't any use either! Anyone got any ideas?Live the good life where you have been planted.

I also use a large pasta bowl for porridge in the microwave but it's not an individual serving one. It doubles as a fruit bowl if I'm not using it for porridge!.
Love the car, it's a joy to drive. Had a wobbly moment the first time as I have to drive along the main road near my home where the accident happened to go anywhere. Need to go through the owners manual fairly soon, it's really high tech compared to previous car.9 -
For porridge oh uses a Pyrex mixing bowl. Not the massive ones. It might be about 2l size. Cost about £5 and he can put the porridge in for the full time, walk away and it never overflowsworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?7

I,ve learnt through bitter mistakes to use a jumbo Pyrex bowl for my single portion of microwaved porridge. The turntable was looking a permanent overspilled disaster area and it,s annoying to have to stand over something continually when time is short.8

Talking of containers, a couple of years back I bought a box of oblong plastic containers, some were 500ml, some were 300ml, there're the sort that come with Indian/Chinese takeaways. I find they were just the right size for the two of us. They stack well in the freezer, wasting very little space, I can write the contents on the lid. I'm still recycling them, they're brilliant.10

Just in case you don’t know , you can get a dupe of the systema large cup with lid ,from home bargains and b and m . Mine was 99p and have had a few years now, in regular use even though it’s been in and out of freezer and microwave and to and fro from work. May have gone up slightly in price but not as dear as the systema.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7

I have one of those microwaveable breakfast bowls with clip lid from Poundland which I use for porridge on my work-in-the-office days. I soak the oats the night before, then give them two minutes in the microwave with the lid on but the steam vent open. The bowl is quite big so there’s plenty of room for the oats to bubble up without bubbling over. Works a treat.8
