Can I ask for Cash Back

I recently bought two tickets, for cash, for a live performance at my local theatre. The theatre is run by my local council
There was an issue with COVID not yet resolved as to whether one of used proved positive. I contacted the theatre and they have offered me a credit note valid for two years. What is the position can I insist on a cash refund, if so what’s the regulation. Or because I paid cash am I stuck with what I’m offered?
Just in case it makes a difference I live in Northern Ireland.
The show is tonight

It's not because you paid cash. From what you say, it's because you had a positive test so couldn't attend.
Unless this is covered in their policy, no refund is due, so the credit note was just a generous goodwill gesture.1 -
The show went ahead, you couldn't attend. Take the goodwill gesture of the credit not. Would have been the same regardless of how you paid.
