    You understandably disagree with the lack of sympathy and what you'd consider to be reasonable, but there is undoubtedly plenty of very simple logic behind their stance, which is that there's a fee applicable in all circumstances with no exceptions....

    As with others above, this doesn't mean that I endorse or condone Ryanair's approach but ultimately what you see is what you get with them, so there's no point in booking with a cheap no-frills airline renowned for customer-hostile policies and then complaining that they don't bend their rules for you!
