The law has not changed.4

I was taught to give way to pedestrians when learning to drive in the 80s. Seems I've been doing it wrong all these years.7

29 January. And it's a "kerb".9

Drivers have never actually been allowed to run over pedestrians.
They always had to give way to pedestrians when turning into a sideroad, but insanely, they could try and run them over when turning out of a junction. The way the press write it, drivers were previously allowed to merrily turn into or drive out of a junction ploughing over any cyclist or pedestrian who happened to be in the way, and now they have to actually look where they are going and avoid them.Sometimes I despair.........I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Under the old code, pedestrians only had right of way at a junction if they were already on the road.
But under the revamped code, drivers and cyclists will have to give way if a pedestrian is waiting to cross a road they are turning into.

I thought it was if the crossed the carriageway in front of you. The pedestrian would have right of way crossing as you approach the giveaway.facade said:Drivers have never actually been allowed to run over pedestrians.

No mention of people already crossing when you approach the giveway.

I wonder if they will change the rules on zebra crossings too given that is virtually the same i.e. you should stop if they are approaching, but don't have to so long as they are not on it195
Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing:- look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross
- you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing
Rule ZPPPCRGD 1997Reg 251) Every pedestrian, if he is on the carriageway within the limits of a Zebra crossing, which is not for the time being controlled by a constable in uniform or traffic warden, before any part of a vehicle has entered those limits, shall have precedence within those limits over that vehicle and the driver of the vehicle shall accord such precedence to any such pedestrian.
