Simple Solutions is brilliant for pet "accidents", but you would need gallons of the stuff to treat a large area - as rach-k says. It breaks down the ammonia that causes the horrible smell, anything else just temporarily masks it. I would also check vertical surfaces as even female cats can spray! I used a cheap black light on one room and found markings on the bottom of curtains and walls. After cleaning with Simple Solution we didn't have any other incidents.

Taking into account that it's going to be a very long holiday and fitters have a big backlog already I'd follow a range of this advice till you can change the carpet.
I'd start with the bicarb and leave for a day before hoovering.
Take up the carpet and underlay to find the areas causing the problem. It may be only a few or less but knowledge is a great stress reliever.
If you certainly find spots treat them, floor, carpet and underlay, with the enzyme stuff or put a deep patch of bicarb wand spray it with white vinegar. It will fizzle. Let it stay for an hour and clean up.
This should keep you sane until you can relay.
Sandlewood oil dropped on it is good at covering the smell.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

It’s not been freshly painted with Valspar by any chance ?

Made that mistake last year. Lobby and downstairs toilet. Aired it for several weeks without success, fortunately a couple of coats of Dulux on top locked it in and cleared it.

If you do all that together you create a foam of carbon dioxide, water and sodium acetate which appeals to the feeling of doing something magical.  However it reduces the effectiveness of bicarbonate on its own or vinegar on its own.  If the aim is to use the foaming action to lift contaminants out of the carpet pile, then you may be better to either soap the carpet first or perhaps include some washing soda in your mix.
