Is Bright smart meter app safe?
I have a SMETS1 smart electricity meter which has been updated so now works with my Octopus (formerly Avro) account. When this was installed by SSE several years ago I never got an IHD, as I was on a trial for an app and Avros was never able to read it so not bothered. As Octopus can seemingly now access I wanted to use the smart meter as intended. I have seen a few people recommend Bright app but when I log in it is asking for copies of bills, proof of address etc. Is this safe or a scam to stay clear of?

Would that be the UID from the IHD that the OP never received?
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.2 -
The Bright App is produced and supported by Hildebrand. Hildebrand is a Registered DCC user and it has recently carried out work for BEIS on a smart tariff price comparison tool.2

Be careful, theres an energy company called Bright, which isn't the same as the Bright App from Hidebrand (Glownarkt). I'm guessing you've found the energy co rather than the one you want.
As Swipe says, all they want is the the mac address from the IHD so they can access the DCCNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
Hildebrand requires the GUID and the MPAN to set up Bright for access to smart meter data. To access data, Hildebrand uses a DCC-approved Adapter (a secure piece of software). Hildebrand can also connect its own to IHD/CAD (when available) to a HAN.I have been using Bright for 2 years. I am not sure what would constitute unsafe?
Bulb customers can also access smart meter via the CAD side of an IHD/CAD and SmartThings.0 -

Data can also be accessed via the N3rgy.com website. Use the ‘I am a consumer’ tab.1 -

I can confirm that if you are not able to provide the required information from the IHD they do require a copy of your bill as proof of your address. I sent this to them and they gave me access to my Smart Meter data through the app, so it's not a scam.

Thanks everyone. Think I have the right app but as people have said I don't have the IHD so they are instead asking for copies of bill, proof of address etc.. Seems like it is legitimate so safe to proceed.1
