Student loan repayment

Hi everyone,
Was looking for some advice! My employer has emailed me today stating I've been on the wrong student loan repayment plan, I was on plan 1 and should have been on plan 2. I was told I needed to contact the Student Loans Company which I've done and they have advised they have 'sent the request to HMRC'. The most concerning thing they said is that they can only pay me back £55 per month for what I have been overpaying- is this correct?! I have been massively overpaying each month, I should have been paying around £10 a month and in the 22 months I have been here I have paid anything between £57-£135! I was under the impression if I would receive a lump sum for my refund rather than a monthly amount? I called HMRC but they referred me back to the Student Loans Company. Are they allowed to give me a monthly amount when I have overpaid so much? I'm owed around £1500, which would be a HUGE help to me to pay off some other debts and some towards my car.
Thank you!
