Student not eligible for ssp

I'm a full time student so don't think I can get universal credit. I handed in a sick note to my employer two weeks ago but have found out I'm not eligible for ssp because I haven't worked enough hours the weeks before (this is due to missing shifts because of illness) my sick note covers the whole month of December and I'm now without money. What can I do?

You are correct about UC, The only other benefit would be New style ESA but to claim this you need to have paid the correct amount of NI contributions in tax years April 2018 to March 2020. Even with this, you won't receive any money for at least 3 weeks, possibly longer. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-employment-and-support-allowanceDo you have family you can ask for help?To be eligible for SSP you will have needed to earn at least £120 per week. If you don't then this will be why you don't qualify. https://www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay/eligibility

Can you ask to take holidays that you may have accrued so you have some money coming in?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. No I don't have any holidays to take, it's looking like there's nothing much to help me here unfortunately

Just to clarify. This is an average wage and wages over a certain period can be averaged out.poppy12345 said:You are correct about UC, The only other benefit would be New style ESA but to claim this you need to have paid the correct amount of NI contributions in tax years April 2018 to March 2020. Of course, if you always earn less than £120 per week then you wouldn't be eligible.
A good explanation here on how your employer should work it out.

Unfortunately this can happen for people on low pay who have periods of illness disrupting work leading up to an extended absence.livvy8448 said:..have found out I'm not eligible for ssp because I haven't worked enough hours the weeks before (this is due to missing shifts because of illness) ..Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. From what you said in your posts elsewhere you do not seem to have earnings details. Do you have any details eg net pay figures?livvy8448 said:No I don't have any holidays to take, it's looking like there's nothing much to help me here unfortunately
The details you need to check SSP would be for weekly pay ....
The last payday before the first full day of sickness and the seven paydays before that.
For monthly ....
Last payday before the first full day of sickness and the one before that.
You do mention earlier sickness; have you been excluded from SSP in last eight weeks before this sickness?

Do you get PIP?
Did you earn above £5800 in 18/19 & £5900 in 19/20 tax years ?0 -
Even if they do receive PIP, as a full time student they can't claim UC unless they have already been found to have either LCW or LCWRA, which they haven't.xxxxxxxx said:Do you get PIP?
