ceramic tap cartridges

Options
Are ceramic tap cartridges interchangeable between hot and cold and turning forward and back as I have a drip but don't know whether it is the hot or cold so do I have to buy a pair  or can I just buy one and if I get it wrong swap them over?

The only ones I've fitted turn either to the left or right to open the tap so not interchangeable. Do the hot and cold feed pipes have isolators on them? If so try isolating either the hot or cold which should show which tap is dripping.

Before investing too much time in working out which one is faulty, I'd first find out whether it is possible to buy the correct replacement cartridge(s) singly, or if they are only sold as pairs.

All the ones I've changed have only been supplied as pairs by the usual sources... although I'm sure it might be possible to find someone online who might have a 'spare' single they are selling, but as pairs typically retail about £5 it still isn't likely to be cost effective to get just one in that situation.

If they're the quarter turn type then they aren't usually interchangeable as the 'turn' would be in the opposite direction on the other side.

I bought a pair of 1/4 turn ceramic tap cartridges recently. As above they are not interchangeable.

Mine had the red and blue markers the wrong way around. Fortunately I checked that before fitting them.

JohnSwift10, and anyone else, check this before fitting.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
  • I bought some from screwfix and you could swap insides around for CW and CCW
