If your travel insurance covers this claim on it. Did you book refundable rooms at the hotel?0

if the hotel is open and available for your stay and the meal is also available then the hotel have no obligation to refunds you unless you booked with refundable terms.
If your travel insurance covers government restrictions then you should claim from them.0 -
Should really start your own thread.Sallyannmse said:We live in France and booked a hotel for 2 nights for my family of 5 to be near my 90 year old parents in Folkestone over Christmas. Cost approx £2000 (including Christmas lunch for 8 people). The French government ruled on no travel unless pressing grounds and the hotel has refused to refund or give vouchers. Any advice on how to proceed please? Thank you!0 -

It is rather confusing with the hijacked thread, but I suspect the post being replied to was past tense as in the event had come and gone so the OP is trying to claim for an event which they could have attended but chose not to.unforeseen said:As long as you have French residency then there is no problem.
It seems unlikely the OP will be back to update anyway as is becoming common now on MSE.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. From Saturday 18 December, new rules for travel from France to the UK.
“Anyone wishing to travel from France to the UK must complete a Certificate to leave Metropolitan France, which specifies exemptions for travel. Your reason for leaving will be checked before your departure by the French authorities.”
Visiting family is not one of the permitted exemptions - except in the case of Death of a direct-line family member (grandparents, parents, children, brothers and sisters). Visiting a person facing a life-threatening situation, for direct-line family members (grandparents, parents, children and siblings).
Required documents: death certificate, medical certificate describing the state of the person with a life-threatening condition, proof of family relationship.
