DashCams Fitted By Halfords
Options
Had a front and rear dashcam hardwired by Halfords a few months back.
As the cables have to run down the pillar on the passengers side where the side airbag is, do they fit them so they run underneath the airbag? As I heard if it's incorrectly fitted over the airbag it could be unsafe
It looks as if though the cable runs parallel and not across but don't want to mess around with anything

Only the man who fitted it knows where he routed the cable. They should avoid the air bags obviously.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Go ask them - others can only express an opinion.

I've used Halfords twice for this service and never had any problems.
Does you car have side airbags? If I understand correctly from previous threads, you have a smaller car, Yaris, Polo or similar and not the latest model.0 -
Yeah on the a pillar it says srs curtain airbag1

Both the power cable (left side) and front to rear (right side) hide perfectly behind the top of the A pillar trim and do not in any way obstruct those airbags. The power cable runs from the fusebox, behind the glovebox, up behind the front doorseal and not behind the A pillar trim.1

If I was to pull the A pillar a bit to make sure that it's routed properly, there's no chance of the airbag being deployed is there ?0 -
No, mine is a self install. If you pull away the rubber door seal along the length of the trim it might be possible to carefully pry it away from the A pillar and shine a torch behind to see the cable.Much depends on how they routed the cable(s) though. The could have done it the way I did across the top of the trim and hidden.Very unlikely the airbag will trigger. For the complete removal of the trim (on mine) there is a "special" plasticclip towards the bottom which prevents said trim acting as a projectile if the airbag does activate. It has to be turned through 90 degrees using long nosed pliers to release. Otherwise just push in fixing.0

I routed mine from the headlining, then tucked in behind the front edge of the A-pillar and down to where it meets the dash then in that gap between the two to the rubber seal of the door. I wasn't inclined to route the cable at the top of the A-pillar because not only is there an airbag in behind the pillar but it also extends along the top of the door frame as a curtain airbag.
It probably wouldn't make that much of difference though as there's enough explosive force in the airbags that the cable would be easily blown out of the way and I've never heard of airbags going off on their own due to the cables crossing over them.0 -
Why they don't just put 12V by the mirror, or even just a little USB port that is switched with the ignition. That would cover a lot of people's needs.0
