  • I’m not a fan of sweet pastry. Sainsburys in store bakery mince pies are excellent. Pastry very short with a sugar dusting. Mincemeat is good and not runny. 4 for £1. They can freeze well too.

I like Greggs ones, as I like the pastry

  • I bought some Baileys mince pies from Asda - 4 packs in fact.

Big mistake, they are far too sweet. Eating a whole one nearly finished me off.

We did our own research as we like mince pies

    The results are as follows

1st.    My home made mince pies using home made mincemeat

2nd.  Local bakery pies.  Very good but often expensive

3rd   Top of the range supermarket pies.  They tended to have more mincemeat and pastry was made with butter

4th Cheaper supermarket pies.  Often too sweet and the pastry had nasty ingredients such    as palm oil

5th Bottom of the range and very cheap.. mainly disgusting

We didn’t find significant differences between the individual supermarkets.  I suspect they were all made in the same factories

I ignore most of the commercial reviews as it’s all down to personal taste.
  • I'm a big fan of the Sainsbury's taste the difference mince pies.  Best shop bought ones I've had.

They are supposed to be the best ones this year.

Basically, none of the major supermarkets' mince pies are worth eating - far too much claggy pastry and too little decent filling.  Tesco Finest had some good reviews this year, but they're not worth eating either.

Can't beat home made for decent pastry and decent home made filling.  Once you've tried them you don't go back!

Waitrose brown butter ones are stunning ! But nothing beats homemade pastry, homemade mincemeat ones.

No point in buying a jar of mincemeat and a pack of pastry and then calling it a homemade pie in my opinion x

My parents sometimes made it but I always preferred Robertsons!

Anyone remember when it came in stone jars? I only vaguely do as I was very young but I still have 2  jars that my mother kept.
