Can I claim back installation cost of a faulty shower

I bought a shower valve, and my plumber discovered it is faulty on the installation - the handles fall off and don't stay tight. I contacted the supplier, and waiting for the reply. They would hopefully offer a replacement. In order to replace it I will need to break a few tiles, and pay the plumber again. Who is liable for this additional cost - supplier or me? Logically it should be supplier, but I cannot find a definite answer so just wanted to clarify my rights here.

The supplier is liable.
In future, get the tradesman to supply and fit. Saves a lot of hassle from your end.0 -

Section 23 of the CRA includes this:
(2) If the consumer requires the trader to repair or replace the goods, the trader must—
(a) do so within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to the consumer, and
(b) bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).
edited to add: this assumes you are a consumer and didn't buy the part posing as a trader or on a trade card, for example.1 -

The suppliers argument could be, if the handles fall off and don't stay tight, this should have been picked up before it was installed.

not sure, I need to ask the plumber. he said it is not the case, as the valve is concealed and needs to be firmly fixed in the wall first in order to put all other bits on top of it. but I am not a plumber so probably will be a messenger here.powerful_Rogue said:The suppliers argument could be, if the handles fall off and don't stay tight, this should have been picked up before it was installed.0 -
Yes the plumber would need to remove some tiles if it a biv. But should be able to remove shower cartridge and any hot/cold valves without removing tiles.
So maybe best to order a new one, replace the parts required the send the old faulty one back after refitting the said parts.
I very much doubt the supplier will send a replacement before returning the faulty shower. Or pay for any work involved.

yes they probably won't send a replacement before we send the valve back. we ordered spare parts in question, the joiners that should fit the spindle. we should be able to see if that fixes the issue or not as the valve itself seem to work. if it doesn't then we would go return route, but the supplier is taking time to reply anyway so we have nothing to lose.plumb1_2 said:Yes the plumber would need to remove some tiles if it a biv.
