Car Insurance - is this right?

My husband insured with Endsleigh last year for £330 with 1 years no claims (he's a new driver!).

He expected the price to go down a little this year with 2 years no claims, and no points or anything to declare. He was shocked to get a renewal quote for £552.

On ringing up to enquire about the price, he was told the difference was due to him instructing Autoglass to repair a small chip in the windscreen. He'd heard the advert saying it doesn't affect your no claims etc., and wasn't made aware that it would massively increase his premium.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Surely a chip repair can't cost over £200

I got a full new windscreen once as a stone bounced up and broke it. I claimed on my insurance, and I can't remember paying any extra premiums the next year.

He's shopped around and gone to Halifax who were cheaper at £238.
Here I go again on my own....

The no claims bonus is not affected, but that doesn't mean the insurer won't load the premium.

In your case, if the increase is purely due to the windscreen, the hike is ridiculous and you've done the right thing by going elsewhere.

I never, never ,never, never, renew. So many times I'll find it much cheaper elsewhere.
The idea of huge amounts of cashback being offered on Quidco or Topcashback is a fantastic reason not to renew.Yes some may say the cashback it's not always guaranteed, but I've always got it.

Good luck.Off to read your troubles on paypal now
  • Thought i would revise this thread, as i have a similar question. Something i have noticed whilst looking to whom i should renew my insurance with.

The cheapest quote i have initially researched is through Swiftcover.
looking through their t&c's i notice that whilst a windscreen repair/replacement won't effect your existing no claims, it states in their t&c's that my no-claims won't go up either!

I haven't noticed this before and was wondering if this is unique to Swiftcover, or is it common practice that i've missed before?

Here's the link to the condition

Many Thanks in advance for your views.
