Change of ownership

Hi all, I sold my car back in August, due to work commitments a friend dealt with new owner collecting the vehicle. I hadn't realised there was any issue until I received a parking charge notice this morning. The car was sold on eBay and it doesn't seem to allow me to contact the buyer as the transaction was over 90 days ago. I don't seem to have any record of the sale to appeal the charge and without the V5C reference Im not sure what to do from here. Please help!

Do you have copies of the contact messages in your email? Sometimes they get copied there when eBay receives them?

Has the V5 actually been sent to DVLA or submitted online for change of keeper? If not then you might get speeding tickets etc too which will be much more hassle to sort.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Your friend should have submitted the change of ownership for you.

Perhaps ask them to pay the fine?

Driving fines and letters when you do not own the vehicle

Return the fine letter to the organisation that sent it to you and tell them you do not own the vehicle. Keep a copy of anything you send.

You used to own the vehicle

Send the organisation a copy of the letter that DVLA sent you when you sold the vehicle to confirm you’re not the registered keeper anymore.

If you do not have the letter from DVLA

Write to DVLA to ask for proof that you’re not the registered keeper anymore.

In your letter to DVLA you should include:

    • the vehicle registration number, make and model
    • the exact date of sale or transfer
    • the name and address of the person you sold or transferred it to

DVLA will send you a replacement letter within 4 weeks.
