just query. how much does the treasury take on this? if they take a percentage then i cannot see why the treasury/government could not decrease their cut and then this would have avoid things being so expensive and putting everyone into a recession or am i misundertanding things....

I can see it & you can see it, but as the price of everything goes up the government collect more in VAT. Lets hope this is their downfall.

By the way I believe the total tax on fuel is around 75% of the price at the pump.

The thing is we have a welfare state and that needs to be paid for, nobody wants to pay more income tax so the tax is applied to petrol.

The treasury needs £xxxx per year to pay for everything, if it reduced the tax on fuel there would have to be an equal increase on the tax on something else.

Personally I think they should "means test" Child Benefit. Stop giving it to the rich and it would save a lot of money.
