  • The thing is we have a welfare state ....

The rest of the bl**dy world has our welfare state as well  If we stopped doleing it out hand over fist to any foreigner who asks for it, we might not now be crumbling under the weight of all this taxation.

Personally I think they should "means test" Child Benefit. Stop giving it to the rich and it would save a lot of money.

It is classed as taxable income now, so when the "rich" get it it is taxed like the rest of their income, so they are no better off.

  • i dont get the petrol much. I screamed at it going over £1 a litre but per tank its a pound or two dearer than 6 months ago.

What i hate is road tax. I'm now £160 a year and the new proposals are stupid. My vote is add 2p a litre purely for road tax. The more miles you drive the more petrol you use the more tax you pay. Vice versa those with high economy cars or don't travel alot pay less. It may encourage less speeding too as the faster you go (gearing depending) the more petrol you are likely to use. I get a good 700 miles from a tank if i cruise on a motorway at 70. More at 65 and alot less if faster.

Cut the initial cost to have a car and i will happily pay a bit more for my petrol.
