Death and utilities

Hi,

My father in law died and my husband has been dealing with the utility bills.
The estate has no money and they are sending the bills to us, C/O.

If these are not paid, will this impact his credit?  Or can they not do this?

There is no executor he just thought he would do it.

  • Did your FIL own his home? If not his estate is insolvent and you husband should not attempt to administer it.

If that is the case he should right to all the creditors informing them the the estate is insolvent and that no one is administering it. This will not effect his credit score.

Thank you. No home, lived in council house.

I'll let him know to write to them all letting them know.

Will the fact British gas are sending us bills negatively affect us? Should be pay that one now they have his name?

FIL debts die with him if there is no money in the estate to cover them.
When you say they have your husband's name, is that just as a contact or has he agreed to have the bills put in his own name?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

That's just a contact. They are coming as C/O but still have the FIL in the first instance.
