Everybody else on this thread has given their opinion (directly or implied) on the matter including yourself.

I was trying to be transparent, I provided what I believe to be the relevant factual links about data sharing. I wanted to declare my stance so people can be objective about the information I provided and have the opportunity provide additional information in the case that my opinion had clouded what I thought was factual.

I refrained from making sweeping statements like "sold to all and sundry" and instead directed the reader to a concise list of all the actual organisations to whom the data is shared.

I also provided a link to opt out of the data sharing for anybody who doesn't hold my opinion.

I am more concerned with things like the example that Jamesd provided about venues making publicly viewable insecure lists of personal details without any regard to data protection or privacy than I am about an anonymised data set shared by the NHS. The breaches of privacy and data security most likely to affect our day to day lives are occurring right under our noses.
