Samsung Galaxy A3 issue?

Battery for my Samsung Galaxy A3 is dead, I took it to local Timpson's for replacement 3 weeks ago! Assured by manager battery was on order, heard nothing since, bloody disgrace. Anyway, I have an identical model which I've managed to insert my sim card into but all my contacts and other stuff are still on the old phone, hence my reason for replacing the battery in hope of transferring everything over to new phone. Is there a way I can transfer contacts, photos etc... over to 'new' phone without replacing the battery? Any advice is greatly appreciated. ( I have tried to contacted manager from Timpsons but went straight to answer machine, left a message but still no reply)

  • If you use the same Google account on your new phone they should sync automatically.

That is of course provided you did backup / sync your old phone - if you didn't then nothing you can do and would be same situation if your phone was lost or stolen.

Always backup your data or sync to a cloud provider.

Can you log into your Google account on your computer?

If so, you could find your contacts https://contacts.google.com/?hl=en

Will the phone with the dead battery work if you plug a charger in?

If yes, then can you get it back from Timpsons?

Or swap the battery from the identical working phone if that is a DIY job.

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

    Hi,
not much help to you just now, but, better to save contacts to sim rather than phone.
It is not better to store contacts on a SIM at all for many reasons, we aren't in the 1990's:

    1. Lose your phone / SIM - lose your contacts. Having them on your phone sync'd to the cloud is much better. Also anybody finding your SIM has access to all your contacts.
    2. If you change networks you need to SIM swap so you would have to transfer contacts to the phone anyway.
    3. Only allowed 250 contacts on a SIM and limited to 256KB and can't store other data against the contact such as email address
    4. Can't store multiple numbers against one contact name
    5. SIM cards will be obsolete soon - many new phones / networks aren't using them
    6. Most Apple phones won't allow contact storage on the SIM

Saving them to your phone and cloud provider is much easier and safer in terms of having a backup.

Samsung Smart Switch, fast and it works well.    Simple to use, asks if this is the phone to send data or receive.

Samsung Smart Switch, would work if original phone had power. I'm not au fait with cloud or google but will look into it from now on. I'm not technically proficient to change battery, will have to look for another supplier I think, any recommendations?
Thank you all for your help/advice.

Can I ask how you know the battery is actually dead versus any other kind of fault with the phone?

Sorry to be pedantic, spent years working in IT support and know that what somebody thinks the problem is can be totally different to the actual problem.

If you are happy with your diagnosis of a bad battery, then all good and ignore the questions below, but "not charging" can me many things to me.

    1. When you say it won't charge - was your phone on and operating when you tried to charge it or was it already "dead"? What was the remaining charge at the time?
    2. What does it say on screen when you attempt to charge? or is it just totally blank?
    3. Have you tried alternative charging wires and power sources?
    4. Was there any symptoms of a failing battery leading up such as shortened life, sudden drop in % remaining?
    5. Any physical symptoms such as battery bulge?
    6. Have you tried the soft reset process on the phone? Press the Volume Down and Power keys together for 10 seconds.

It could save you some money if it isn't actually the battery that is the problem and that is my angle on this - being MSE after all!
