Asda Gift Card - Money Disappeared

Okay here goes, I'll give some background into this story.
We were in George in Asda Hamilton looking for sports bras for my wife as were were looking for something to make it easier for fer to dress herself with one arm after suffering a stroke in February this year.
The pack of three sport bra types we bought didn't make things any easier so we returned themonour next visit.
As we are regular shoppers at Asda we didn't mind when the assistant told us she couldn't refund us cash or to the card we used and that it would hae to be put on a gift card, no problem as we intended buying other things from George bhut not on this day as we had finished our shopping.
A couple of months went past and I kept forgetting that I had money on this gift card until yesterday.
IWe always do the scan and go to save time standing at checkouts but when I presented my gift card at the machine it was declined.
I asked one of the assistants if I was doing it right, she tried then said she would check with her work station to see why it wouldn't work.
She informed me that there was no money on the gift card.
After explaining what happened with the sports bras I was left stumped, "Nothing I can do without a receipt" was her reply.
It may have been a mistake by the assistant who gave me the gift card instead of refunding to my original card but somehow the money has disappeared from the card unless it was never on the card in the first place, It's not the money just the money, it's also the principle.
In the past few months I been robbed with the gift card in Asda and the More card in Morrisons and don't get me started about Amazon, it's not only scammers we need to look out for stealing our money.

You haven't been robbed, a mistake has been made. Write a nice letter to the store manager - don't accuse them of theft, for a start - and ask if s/he can help a regular customer.3

Have you checked the transaction history on the card ?

When you were given the gift card, you should have received a receipt with the balance on it. If not them the person forgot to add the balance to the card.Life in the slow lane1

Is it possible that the card has expired? I know some credits have a time limit which is why I don't like them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. ASDA Gift Cards
The card is valid for a period of two years from your last transaction. Therefore, we recommend you use your card every 6 months to keep the card active, even if you just check your balance.
