Make sure you can afford to live on one wage.  Buy sets (bundles) of clothes for your child from ebay/your local Facebook Marketplace.  Join a local parent and child group.  Go for a walk every day, even if it's raining cats and dogs - your mental health will be grateful.  Enjoy this time - you can't get it back.

    First of all, many congratulations!

My first child was born overseas and we had no family around to help (if you do have family around to help, it's a great bonus). But we managed. I have to say that we bought the best equipment we could afford - pram that turned into a pushchair, a good cot, car seat, etc.as safety was our prime concern and we wanted things that lasted. I don't think it's worth buying expensive clothing for a tiny baby because they grow so quickly. I never bought second hand clothing from anywhere though - you can get cheap, new stuff from supermarkets and even M&S. We also used terry towel nappies which were a bit more bother than disposables but worked out a lot cheaper. If you can breast feed too that will save you quite a bit in the first weeks.

Most of all children need to be loved, and to know they are and to be fed and to be kept warm when it's chilly. That's all really.

Turn the heating down a notch or two .
    Buy tinned meat .
  • If you don't yet know other parents of young children, get out there and meet them. Ideally their child will be about a year older than your child, then they have child number 2 about a year after yours is born. And then you have child number 2 about a year after that...
And then you hand clothes/equipment back and forth until everything is worn out. But as they had the first child, they bought everything, so you don't have to.

Sign up for the baby clubs eg Pampers they often give you vouchers for free newborn nappies and money off vouchers for bigger sizes. Also Emma's diary etc. Don't buy too many first size clothes babies grow really fast and friends and family will often buy you first size.
    Also congratulations.

Shop around for bargains on nappies, asda do 2 boxes for £16. (180) Amazon is not the cheapest

If you got some spare cash you could open a child saving account you get 3% and its tax free.
    £100 a month, till 16 @ 2% is £25k. Santander is 3% at moment.

My baby is 2 months now.
We got all the clothes bought for us, an some expensive ones too, an are baby is always hungry so after 2 months he doesnt fit in most of the clothes. Who ever designed the baby clothes wants shooting, 20 buttons all over them, does my head in.

Also sleep when ever you can. Rememer once you start cudding your baby when they cry you always have to cuddle them :O

Id consider myself stong, confident and very patience, I had a break down after he was born an so did my gf. Make sure you eat when you can, sleep when you can. You will probably keep looking at your baby checking there breathing all the time and googling everything that is happening if you think there is a problem an that will keep you awake. But as long as he's on his back and cott is clear you should be fine. Good luck!

    I'm a mom of a 7-month-old baby...

    1. There are just a few must-haves for a great start in a baby's life: First, a comfortable and safe crib and a good mattress. Second, a stroller, or the way you plan to walk, you may not need a stroller if you live in a private home... A baby dresser is handy, but not necessary, you can put the children's things on a separate shelf in the closet to the adults.

    2. a great way to save money - breastfeeding. For at least six months, no food costs for the baby.

3 Do not buy toys - you will be given so many!  And up to 7-8 months, the baby will be interested in a couple of rattles, and when he crawls, he will be interested in everything in the house, plates, pots, spoons, floor flowers, cat's tail... so be patient with the purchase of toys, you will not be late.

    4. Children's clothes can be borrowed from acquaintances whose children have already grown out of them.  Babies grow up very quickly, it makes no sense to buy new things every 2-3 months. Exactly everything will be dirty, washed a hundred times, and the very beautiful appearance of clothes will be lost from frequent washings and stains.
