Dodgy mechanic wrote off my car. Options?

I had my car in for a service at a local mechanic and fast forward 6 months and the engine has melted through according to the dealership mechanic. Car worth £11k, repairs total £12k. Parts and scrap for £3k.

What are my options?

Your options are to prove, 6 months on, that a dodgy mechanic caused the issue. You'll need a bit more than 'the engine has melted through' as evidence

The first option is to try to provide a better description of what happened than simply the "engine has melted" or the "thingy melted the incorrect widget into the whatsit".

With clearer information, people may be able to suggest a viable solution.

The values you state don't seem to add up either - very few cars are worth £3k as scrap.  It rather sounds as though whoever gave you the numbers £12k to repair or £3k scrap is trying to have you over with the repair number, then thinking they'll get the car from you for a song (£3k) as a "non-runner", do a repair for, say £3k, and sell for £10k - an easy £4k bagged.
