Dishwasher drainage issue and waste pipe

I've had a new integrated dishwasher installed. The dishwasher waste pipe seems to come from ground level, then go upwards into the kitchen cabinet that has the sink, it then gets routed into the sink waste connection which is at the top of the cabinet.

Given this large upwards travel of the pipe, how would the waste water go out of the waste pipe? I haven't dared to use the dishwasher yet but in an experiment, I've poured a jug of water into the interior of the dishwasher to see if it drains through but it's just sitting there in the bottom of the interior space.

Does the dishwasher have an internal pump to push out the waste water or is there a problem with the installation? Given the dishwasher waste pipe comes out from the dishwasher so low, I'm presuming most installs would have the waste pipe routed in an upwards direction so it would be the same issue.

Any help or comments on this?

The water is pumped out so you have nothing to worry about.

Our dishwasher plumbing is very similar to how you describe yours. It is the standard method.

Washing machines and dishwashers usually have the waste water exiting at or near the bottom and it is therefore pumped out and upwards into the waste trap under a sink or nearby.

Run your dishwasher and check that there are no leaks. The installer should have done that and probably did. Were you watching?

That water that you poured in will just sit there until the machine is switched on.

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

You actaully want this 'plug' of water to sit at the low point of the hose as it will block any drain smells that might make it past the waste trap.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

When you next turn the dishwasher on you should hear a whirr from the pump and then a gurgle from the sink.  That'll be the water you poured in getting pumped out into the sink drain.
