EDF Standard Variable?!

Hi all,

I just logged in to my EDF account and noticed I've been on a Standard (Variable) - E9 Power tariff since October which has left me a bit panicked as I'm pretty sure that's the same as a deemed tariff. I didn't receive a letter informing me of this change.

My flat is electricity only with storage heaters so I have a complex metering system. Waiting on a call back from the complex metering team but the agent on live chat said that I'm on the cheapest tariff currently available to me - does anyone know if this is actually true?

I've also requested that I am billed monthly so that I can keep track of usage and cost, for some reason I was only getting a bill every 6 months.

Any advice would be much appreciated! TIA

  • the the standard variable tariff is definitely the cheapest. You must have come off a fixed deal that ended 30/9 to be on the SV since October. If you pay by d/d then EDF will only bill you every 6 months but you can go on a monthly variable direct debit where you submit your readings every month, they send you a bill then take the full amount in about 14 days. Only works correctly if you give reads every month otherwise it will take the default amount

    Thanks @Curiousgirl1 - that's a relief to hear! I almost had a heart attack  :D

So is it worth me seeing if I can get on a fixed tariff or shall I stay on the variable?
  • Stay on the variable for now as the fixed priced deals are likely to be double

The cheapest fixed tariff I could find for my consumption is presently around £650-£1200 a year more than the cap, so I'm staying on the cap and hoping that it will improve a bit next year
