Stereophonics cancellation and hotel booking

Morning MSE'ers
Reckon I know the answer already, but have to give it a go.
Had tickets booked for Stereophonics gig at the Principality Stadium next weekend (18th December), and had booked a local hotel in Cardiff. Yesterday, we were notified the gig was being postponed to next Summer, so whilst annoying, I am now stuck with a hotel room at a cost of £150 through Hotels.com, where I selected the 'non-refundable' option, and the T's and C's say no refunds or changes to dates, and specific mention regarding Covid-19 cover.
So, am I stuck with a hotel room I have no reason to use (other than Cardiff is lovely), and is there any comeback due to the reason given being:-
"We have been working collaboratively throughout to deliver these shows and have sought clarification from Welsh Government following the latest review on current guidelines and legal requirements around face coverings. Unfortunately, as the threat of new variants emerge and the restrictions in place as an 'indoor venue', the shows are impossible to run safely and ensure compliance with government guidelines and Welsh law."
I have been trying to ascertain what section of 'Welsh Law' this gig has been cancelled under, and whether this would also extend to other 'visits' to Wales - if we can't assemble in a Stadium (the roof was going to be open, so 'indoor' ?), is it 'safe' to assemble anywhere, under Government guidelines and Welsh Law ?
I also booked the trip with my American Express Blue card, if that offers any protection.
Clutching at straws, but thought I would ask the might of MSE anyway... cheers

Apart from the Covid pass thing and travel PCR tests nothing much has changed recently, we had/have stricter rules than England anyway.
You were brave to book a no refunds hotel, you could try asking hotels.com for a goodwill gesture but don't cancel it if the answer is no. Otherwise I would go and enjoy Cardiff.0 -
The gig and accommodation were not booked as a package so there is no basis for refund of the hotel cost. The hotel is still open. You knowingly selected 'non-refundable' so you took the risk.

There is no ban on gathering, only the requirement to wear a face mask in indoor public places. The stadium has been considered as 'indoors' due to the sides of the building being covered.
Presumably, the organiser do not consider you can enjoy a gig when having to wear a face mask- which will no doubt include the performers.0 -
Only suggestion I can make is to go and use the hotel as it's paid for and enjoy the outing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Also, given the size of the venue and the number of people involved, they probably don't feel they would be able to enforce the requirement.sheramber said:

Everything I've booked over the last 18 months I've made sure was refundable or insured, everything is far too susceptible to change at the moment.
Have to agree with @Brie though, Cardiff is a wonderful city with a big, bustling Christmas market and a vibrant nightlife. There are worse places for a break. Make the best of a crappy situation.2 -
I would go and use the hotel, you had planned to anyway ,all be it for a different reason1
